Provides practical work experience via an internship, service-learning project, consultancy, or field study that the student brokers with a third party. Students may not use work done previously or their current employment for course credit. All experiential learning placements must be approved by the student’s concentration head prior to registration to ensure suitability to the student’s program. MAIS 797Interdisciplinary Studies Proposal Writing3

This seminar prepares MAIS students to develop and defend a formal proposal for their master’s thesis or applied project. Through structured workshops and guided faculty mentorship, students identify and refine a topic, conduct a literature review, develop an interdisciplinary framework, design an appropriate methodology or project plan, and prepare for a proposal defense. The course culminates in a written and oral defense of the student’s proposal before their faculty committee. The completed proposal serves as the foundation for the student’s culminating work in MAIS 798 (Project) or MAIS 799 (Thesis). Students must receive approval and formal sign-off from their full committee before beginning work in MAIS 798/799. Offered by School of Integrative Studies. May not be repeated for credit.Recommended Prerequisite: Admission to MAIS and completion of 18 credits of graduate coursework including any required research methodology course(s). Students are encouraged to take MAIS 797 in the last year of the programRegistration Restrictions: Enrollment is limited to Graduate or Non-Degree level students.
