Credit(s) 3 Management Information Systems (MIS) represents a collection of technologies, people, and processes that manage the information and communication resources of an organization. Information systems encompass any interactions between organized data and people. This course focuses on technology components and concepts of management information systems, approaches to systems design and development, security, ethics, and internet-worked enterprises; and how to leverage these to support organizational, strategic and operational goals. Credit(s) 3 This course prepares students to identify, describe, evaluate, and analyze data within the realm of “Big Data” in order to understand the emerging role of analytics in organizations. A focus on how to use data to develop insights and predictive capabilities using machine learning, data mining, and forecasting techniques will be essential concepts. Topics will include probability, statistics, hypothesis testing, regression, clustering, decision trees, and forecasting. Cross-listed with DSC 3500 and ISC 3500 . Credit(s) 3 This course investigates the principles of information systems audit, IT audit tools, audit procedures to help in detection and prevention of security breaches and fraud. Examines the solutions that can be used to prevent information loss or costly business interruptions, the role of information technology governance in business organizations, reporting requirements, and industry standards for IT Governance. Credit(s) 3 The course presents a top-down view of cloud computing, from applications and administration to programming and infrastructure. Topics include: overview of cloud computing, cloud systems, parallel processing, distributed storage systems, virtualization, security, and multi-core operating systems. Students will study popular cloud solutions (Google, Amazon, Microsoft, etc). Students will apply what they learn in projects and programs executed with Amazon Web Services. Credit(s) 3 This course will introduce a general methodology to design effective visualizations. Students will learn how to design, build, and evaluate visualizations for different types of data, disciplines, and domains. Focus will be on non-spatial data and their inherent visualization requirements. Focus also on industry standards and applied techniques in practical scenarios.
