HPS 3120Revolution4
2200 Offered: Spring 2027 & 2029 In this course students explore the concept of revolution, revolutionary ideas, revolutionary change, and revolutionary conflicts. The emergence, contours, and impact of revolutions—of any kind, broadly defined—that create fundamental challenge or alteration of status quo configurations and power dynamics frame the content of this course. Revolutions in thought, science, government structures, violent and non- violent actions, are important to each historical context, geographic impact, levels of power, and the human experience. Students are challenged to not only understand historical moments of change, but to critically interrogate the ideas, socio-political organizations, and impact of the power relations and the inequities that result. Given the complexity of revolutions and the reach of revolutions in thought, knowledge, and power, this course offers students an inter-disciplinary course designed and taught by the history and political science departments.
