MS 101Open Water Diver2
This course is an entry-level certification course for scuba diving. Upon successful completion of this course, you will be certified to scuba dive up to 60 feet (18 meters) underwater. The course consists of online eLearning, 6 pool training sessions, and at least 4 open water training dives. Fall and Spring.
Drysuits provide much better thermal protection in cold water than wetsuits. Utilizing both pool and open water training dives, students will learn the specialized skills required to safely dive with a drysuit. Topics such as gas distribution problems and managing gas on ascents will be covered.
Diving in a current can feel like flying underwater. In this course, you’ll learn drift diving tips and practice buoyancy control, navigation, use of surface signaling equipment and buddy communication in this unique environment.
Students will learn basic techniques for selecting and maintaining their equipment along with the mechanical basis of regulators, cylinders, and buoyancy compensation devices. They will have “hands-on” experience learning maintenance and field fixes of common scuba equipment issues.
BIOL 223 (3 credits) This course provides a comprehensive introduction to the ocean environment. Topics will cover the physical, chemical, biological, and geological aspects of the marine environment and a survey of important oceanic regions on Earth.
MS 302Diving First Aid, AEDs, Neurological Assessment, and O2 Provider1
This course will include basic first aid, CPR, AED, O2 provision, and neurological assessment of divers. Successful completion earns certification with Divers Alert Network (DAN) Diving First Aid for Professional Divers.
