This course examines the nature and purpose of human government as expressed in Catholic theology and history. We will survey the major political teachings and practices of the Church from the biblical era to today. This course is an investigation into how the Franciscan vision of health and illness can affect contemporary understandings of health care institutions and health care ethics. The Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Care Services (ERDs), are used as a resource for moral guidance, drawn from the Catholic Church’s theological and moral teachings, on various aspects of health care delivery.
