NURS 220Introduction to Professional Nursing3
This course will provide students with an introduction to professional nursing. Students will gain insight into how the historical perspective evolved to present day nursing practice with implications for the future. Students will learn key components related to professionalism, roles of the nurse, civility, diversity communication, compassionate care, informatics, and evidence-based practice. The beginning steps related to clinical reasoning and how it relates to making effective clinical judgments will be introduced. Fall/Summer
This course provides the student with the knowledge and skills needed to assess the health status of individuals. Emphasizing a systematic approach, students will perform a comprehensive patient evaluation, including factors that influence health and wellness. Nursing assessment is crucial in the development of skills necessary to distinguish variations in health which provides the initial steps in making evidence-based clinical decisions. Fall/Summer
This course will focus on the maintenance of basic physiological needs of clients who need assistance with basic care. The student will also learn theory and evidence-based interventional skills fundamental to the practice of professional nursing. The student will build upon assessment skills, clinical reasoning, compassionate care, and communication principles. Integrated components within the course will include social determinants of health, diversity, nursing process and teaching/learning principles. The student will learn to apply all concepts in the clinical setting .
This course will enable students to care for individuals along the wellness/illness continuum as a continuation of NURS 322 . Health promotion, disease prevention, acute and intermittent care, chronic care, and exacerbations of chronic conditions will be emphasized for various health problems.

It will include content review, test-taking strategies, practice questions, and evaluation of individualized assessment data to promote success.
