LE 2025Literature and Worldview3
A course designed to examine and emphasize the ways in which language and literature have been used by God to reveal his glory in creation, especially to those who are able to examine them from a Christian worldview. Discussions will focus on both form and content within a given reading, aiming to see what the story suggests to readers about “the good life,” virtue, and truth & falsehood. Attention will be given to the traditional modes of literature—focused primarily on the short story and the novel.
Reading and analysis of selected literary masterpieces from the ancient Near East, Classical Greece, Rome, India, and Medieval Europe. The development of prominent themes and literary styles are traced.
Continuation of LE3013; the Renaissance to the Modern period. Principles of literary criticism are introduced. Attention is given to the various world views expressed in literature.
