This course is designed as an introduction to the first five books of the Bible (Genesis –Deuteronomy) with emphasis upon their literary structure and content, their historical & cultural setting & background, and their theological message, both for Biblical Israel and for the Church today.
This course is designed to explore each of the OT Prophetic books in their historical, cultural, & social contexts – & in their literary & theological relationship to the rest of Scripture. The academic goal is to produce theological interpretations & applications of the material covered useful for the student’s teaching ministry.

The course is designed as an intensive, independent study of one or more OT books with emphasis being given to an in-depth study of their historical, literary, and theological interpretation. Students should anticipate reading approximately 500-pages from an approved bibliography for each hour of course credit.
The course is designed to allow students to produce a written research paper on the basis of their readings in OT 493. Students should anticipate writing approximately 15-pages for each hour of course credit. 103
