INDS 101Introduction to Information Literacy 3 CH
Signature Courses (Pass with C- or better) The courses in this category highlight the part of the core that is reflective of Thiel’s mission and identity. These courses reflect our identity as an institution that guides students toward lives of meaning and purpose. Many of these courses reflect the all-college learning goals that we hope and expect that all Thiel students will have achieved by the time they graduate.
INDS 111Science in our Lives (4.0 CH) This is a natural science course designed for non-science majors, and
science majors interested in a broad view of science. Because science underpins so much of modern society, it is important to be informed about the nature and process of science. This course aims to teach students not only why science is important but also how it works and how to distinguish it from pseudoscience. This course starts by studying perception and logic and then works outward toward big-picture topics. During the lab, students will learn how to conduct experiments, basic statistics to analyze data, and experimental design. Three lectures and one three-hour laboratory per week, which includes a Lab fee.
INDS 155 – Principles of Ethical Leadership (3.0 CH) This interdisciplinary course is an academic study of ethical leadership with numerous experiential applied learnings. It is designed to introduce students to leadership from a broad, global context through various disciplines and as interpreted by various writers, scientists, thinkers, and historians. Students will study, practice and develop their personal style of ethical leadership.
INDS 202Introduction to Women’s and Gender Studies: 3 CH
Gender, Culture and Sexuality Five of the following additional courses: Courses must represent at least two academic departments outside the student’s major area of study are required. At least two courses (6 CH) must be at the 300-level or above.
INDS 391Study Abroad (3.0 CH) A study abroad course focuses on interdisciplinary interaction with a foreign
culture and region. The essential purpose is to provide a broad-based introductory level appreciation of an international locale and its inhabitants. This course will utilize at least four distinct disciplines (e.g. philosophy, history, art, politics). It will serve as a counterpart to an extended stay in the particular region (ranging from 8-16 days). International travel is required and will involve at least one faculty member hosting this experience.
