Students will gain an introduction to the field and basic foundational knowledge that will be used in succeeding coursework. The majority of the course will focus on best practices in physical education instruction and quality physical education programs. Students will have multiple opportunities to develop lesson plans and teach those plans at a local elementary school. Topics also include advising, clearances, ethics, health education, sub-disciplines of kinesiology and the history of physical education. Clearances must be presented during the first week of classes to remain enrolled, see the College of Education.
Current theories and research in the area of sport, wellness, and society will be introduced. The focus of the course is interdisciplinary, incorporating sociological, psychological, historical anthropological, philosophical, and economic perspectives. The development of a variety of techniques, methods or 'tools' by an individual who 'leads' or facilitates experiential or adventure programming can enhance the overall educational experience for the participants as well as promote a more lasting effect. This course will introduce, investigate and provide 'practice opportunities' in a variety of techniques, methods and 'tools' for facilitators in programming.
The purpose of this course shall be to provide the graduate student an opportunity to explore dance as an art form, as well as relate, to their core of study, information regarding various aspects of dance in both art and education. Topics shall include a brief history of dance, a stud of dance genres, the role of dance in education, and today's trends in dance.

Students select independent study projects and develop proposals. These projects may be in support of students' research or related to their vocations. The proposals must be accepted and approved by the coordinator of graduate studies in the semester prior to registration for independent study.
The sport management internship field experience is designed to provide the graduate student with an opportunity to perform management duties as assigned by a practicing administrator while under supervision. These experiences may take a variety of forms. The internship allows the graduate student to profit from the experience and expertise of a professional mentor and participate in the workings of a sports industry environment. The internship is viewed as a very important segment of the curriculum and is individually designed to meet the personal and professional needs of the students as well as the placement site. The intern will be required to maintain a standard of conduct that would exemplify the intent of the organization. Internships are to encompass 135 hours, at a minimum.
