This course delves into psychological techniques and interventions aimed at enhancing performance in sports and related fields. Students will explore both the theoretical foundations and empirical research behind the psychological strategies employed to improve performance. A strong emphasis is placed on integrating evidence-based techniques for diverse populations. Topics covered include imagery, goal setting, biofeedback, and motor-technical mental training. MSP 523Psychology of Injury3

This course offers an in-depth exploration of the psychological components associated with injuries and the rehabilitation process. Students will examine the interplay between physical trauma and mental well-being, learning how psychological factors can influence both the onset of injury and the recovery trajectory. Through a combination of theoretical frameworks, empirical research, and case studies, participants will gain insight into the following areas: emotional and cognitive responses, coping mechanisms and resilience, motivational dynamics, social and environmental influences, and applied intervention strategies. This course meets the requirements of the CMPC certification knowledge area K2: Sport Psychology, Required Course #3: Advanced or supplemental course related to the science and/or practice of sport psychology (e.g., exercise psychology, psychology of injury, team dynamics, youth sport, and/or psychology of coaching, etc.).

MSP 530Sport Science3

This course provides an interdisciplinary exploration of sport science, examining the physiological, biomechanical, motor, sociocultural, and philosophical foundations of sport and human movement. Students will study the biological mechanisms that drive athletic performance, the mechanical principles that influence movement efficiency, and the motor learning process that shape skill acquisition. This course will also investigate the sociocultural dimensions of sport, including issues of identity, access, and the role of sport in society. This course meets the requirements of the CMPC Certification Knowledge Area K3 Sport Science.

MSP 687Internship & Supervision I3

This weekly supervision course (Internship I or II) is part of a two-course applied field experience sequence required for students in the Sport and Performance Psychology program. Students complete a minimum of 100 mentored field experience hours in each course (200 total hours) within an approved sport and performance setting. Across Internship I and II, students will accrue at least 100 hours of direct client contact, 75 hours of support activities, and 25 hours of structured mentorship. Mentorship includes a minimum of 10 hours of individual mentorship and at least 5 hours of direct knowledge of services provided by a qualified AASP-approved mentor.
