The focus of this course is to support your transition from student to teacher as you apply the considerable preparation you have already accomplished. Emphasis will be placed on refining the skills students will need to become outstanding music educators. These include 1) writing strong lesson plans; 2) effectively teaching music classes in both elementary and secondary settings, in instrumental, vocal, and general music settings; 3) learning to be a reflective teacher; 4.) producing a piece of scholarly writing that incorporates peer-reviewed research and lessons learned from classroom or conference experiences; and 5) demonstrating professionalism in communication, attitude, and commitment.
