Methods of 35mm camera operation, lighting, exposure, darkroom procedures, printing and enlarging are studied. 5 Studio Hours Description This course provides students interested in photography with the fundamental principles of capturing an image with a digital camera. Students explore basic camera functions, elements and principles of design, composition, aesthetics, basic editing techniques and creativity through post-production image manipulation. Students are responsible for obtaining their own digital single-lens reflex (DSLR) or mirrorless digital camera with fully manual controls for focus, shutter speed, aperture and International Organization for Standardization (ISO). 2 Studio Hours Description This course is designed for student travelers who want to creatively capture their journey through the lens of a digital camera. Students will explore the fundamentals of travel photography, including camera settings, composition techniques and design concepts. Through hands-on projects, students will photograph landscapes, architecture and portraits while developing their artistic vision. Emphasis will be placed on technical skills, compositional techniques and storytelling, enabling students to create compelling visual narratives that reflect the essence of the places they visit. 5 Studio Hours Description This course examines both the practice and theory of community mural painting. Students are involved in all phases of a large-scale community mural project at a location to be determined. The course includes readings, discussions and individual projects that develop students’ knowledge of art and their ability to apply that knowledge in a range of artistic endeavors. Successful completion of the course will result in the further development of creative, verbal, and collaborative skills that will transfer to any non-art profession in addition to bolstering potential careers in the arts.
