WLD 101Welding Fundamentals3
2 Lecture Hours 2 Lab Hours Description In this course, students learn how to safely use oxy-fuel equipment and become familiar with oxy-fuel flame cutting applications. Students develop competency in the following shielded metal arc welding procedures: stringer beads, butt welds and T-joints in the flat and horizontal positions. Learning Outcomes
1 Lecture Hours Description This course provides students with an overview of the oxy-fuel cutting, welding, braze welding and gas metal arc welding (GMAW) processes. Safety and theory are emphazsized. Students demonstrate proper welding techniques through hands-on practice in the lab. Learning Outcomes
1 Lecture Hours 4 Lab Hours Description This course assists students in the development of skills necessary to interpret sketches and prints common to the metal working field. Students begin with simple drafting concepts and sketching techniques, then move on to metal structural shapes used by welders. These include differentiation of auxiliary views, detailed views, projections, sections, detail and assembly drawings. American Welding Society (AWS) standard welding symbols are emphasized, as well as basic math skills including decimals and fractions. Learning Outcomes
3 Skills Lab Hours Description Students will become proficient in the use of various welding techniques, metal cutting and stationary tools used in a welding lab. This course will focus on welding as a fine art medium. Learning Outcomes 1. Explain the concepts associated with each weld process studied. 2..Demonstrate the basic safety precautions required in a welding lab. 3..Develop a design for a three-dimensional work and follow through to completion. 4.Utilize welding skills required for creating a three-dimensional work. 5.Analyze class projects through oral and written critiques. Listed Topics 1. Safety precautions 2. Equipment set-up and use 3. Elements of design 4. Principles of design 5. Oral and written communication of projects Reference Materials Instructor approved textbooks and materials
2 Lecture Hours 2 Lab Hours Description In this course, students learn about popular methods of non-destructive testing applied to a variety of metal shapes. Existing non-destructive testing installations and equipment are discussed. Students explore non-destructive test principles in the following methods: liquid penetrants and magnetic particle inspection, X-ray radiology, ultrasonics and eddy currents. Learning Outcomes
2 Lecture Hours 2 Lab Hours Description This is a course designed for students in technical programs. The focus is on soldering and brazing of copper and steel, cutting and welding of steel using oxyacetylene and electric arc welding of plate and sheet metal. Students learn basic theory and safety of all covered welding techniques. Learning Outcomes
