Emphasis is placed on critical thinking, professional responsibility, prevention strategies, and the role of practioners. The course avoids sensationalism and focuses on evidence based practices. Causations as well as treatment and prevention programs are considered. The proper handling and referral of juveniles involved in criminal and status offenses are discussed. 3 Lecture Hours Description In this course, students examine the history and philosophy of treatment, the structure of the correctional system and the legal basis for treatment. Consideration is given to the history of corrections and how that history has shaped treatment approaches. Students focus on treatment modalities presently employed in working with offenders.
