CCED 202BIBLICAL INTEGRATION INTO CURRICULUM. This course equips
educators with the knowledge and skills to thoughtfully and effectively integrate biblical principles into academic disciplines across grade spans. Participants will explore the theological foundations for biblical integration, examine practical strategies for connecting the Christian worldview with subject matter, and develop lesson plans that reflect that Christian worldview. Fall semester, three hours.
CCED 203THE ART OF CLASSICAL TEACHING METHODS, INCLUDING
TRIVIUM AND QUADRIVIUM. This course introduces pre-service educators to the foundational principles and practices of classical education, focusing on the Trivium (Grammar, Logic, Rhetoric) and the Quadrivium (Arithmetic, Geometry, Music, Astronomy). Participants will explore the historical roots and enduring relevance of these methods, learning how they cultivate critical thinking, eloquence, and intellectual virtue. Through lectures, discussions, and practical applications, students will examine strategies for implementing classical pedagogy in modern classrooms, fostering a love of truth, beauty, and goodness. By the end of the course, educators will be equipped to design lessons that integrate classical approaches with contemporary educational standards. Spring semester, three hours.
CCED 205FIRST-LEVEL TEACHER APPRENTICESHIP. An apprenticeship course
designed to permit students to engage in a thirty-to forty-hour entry-level classroom experience. Students will observe experienced teachers in classroom settings, noting organizational structures, curriculum issues, and students’ development. This is to be completed in a Christian or Classical School. Two hours.
CCED 350EDUCATION FOR THE MISSION FIELD. This course seeks to provide
students with the opportunity to learn more about the philosophy and structure of international, missional, and national schools. A strong focus will be provided on how to partner with nationals to advance their own teaching abilities. Students will have the opportunity to interact with several alumni who are currently teaching on the mission field. The final component of the course will be a service-learning project for a mission school. Spring semester, one hour.
CCED 405SENIOR TEACHER APPRENTICESHIP. Christian & Classical Education
candidates (seniors only) are provided a one-semester apprenticeship teaching at a Christian or Classical school. The course is intended to provide the candidate with experience delivering the content they have acquired over the past 3 years while working with a master teacher. Included in this experience is the successful planning, preparation, and delivery of a unit of study. This course is designated Speaking Intensive (SI). Prerequisites: Christian and Classical Education 202, 203, and 205. Two hours.
CCED 410SEMINAR IN CLASSICAL & CHRISTIAN EDUCATION. This course
examines how faith and learning interacted in the West historically as well as how to apply the Christian faith to the operation of educational institutions in the future. Throughout the course, special emphasis will be placed on contemporary Classical-Christian school movement as a case study of one-way Christians are currently attempting to bring historical lessons and their faith to bear on education. Alternate years, three hours.
