RADI M723Advanced Interventional Radiology0

This advanced elective will build on the basic knowledge and skills the student has acquired in the phase 3 Interventional Radiology Elective. The student will predominantly spend time in the vascular and interventional radiology suite and work one-on-one with the attendings, residents, and fellows. The student will take an active role under appropriate supervision to learn advanced skills required of an IR learner. This will include hands-on experience during procedures. Each morning before cases begin, the student will review the case board and present to the supervising physician several of the day's scheduled cases. The student will take on responsibility for pre- and post-procedure care and follow up in select cases. By the end of the rotation, students will be able to compare/contrast different techniques employed by IR clinicians, recommend appropriate IR procedures for various disease processes, recognize the signs and symptoms of complications seen in IR procedures, counsel patients on the risk and benefits of specific IR procedures, and perform a comprehensive preoperative evaluation in a patient undergoing IR procedures.
