AERO 1020DAF: Heritage and Values1
Foundations of USAF DAF: Heritage and Values is a one-credit hour, two-term survey course designed to introduce cadets to the Department of the Air Force and the Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps. In this course, we will cover the role of the military in U.S. society, military history, officership, professionalism, core values, career opportunities, customs and courtesies, as well as communication skills. You will build on this course and these skills every year of your Air Force ROTC career through class and leadership lab, so you must arrive each week ready to work hard and execute the Air Force Core Values.
Leadership Laboratory, all cadets enrolled in the GMC or POC must take leadership laboratory each semester. The 2 hours per week is typically taken throughout a cadet’s enrollment in AFROTC. Instruction is conducted within the framework of an organized cadet corps with a progression of experiences designed to develop each cadet’s leadership potential. Leadership Laboratory involves a study of USAF customs and courtesies; drills and ceremonies; career opportunities in the USAF, and the life and work of a USAF officer. Cadets develop advanced leadership skills in a practical laboratory.
Team & Leadership Fundamentals is a one-credit hour, two-term course designed to provide the foundation for both leadership and team building. You will build on this course every year of your Air Force ROTC career, so you must do the readings and homework. Likewise, all of these lessons will be directly applicable to your field training experience. Class announcements will be posted via e-Learn or email. Monitoring communications from the instructor is critical to success in this course.

Air Force Leadership Studies is a three-credit hour, two-term course designed to build on the leadership fundamentals taught in AS200. The theme of this year is “Leading People and Effective Communication.” Students will use their skills as they begin more of a leadership role in the detachment. The goal is for each of you to have a more in-depth understanding of how to effectively lead people, and this semester will provide some of the tools to apply in detachment leadership roles.

This class hones the skills and knowledge that are critical to your success as an Air Force or Space Force Officer and is designed to prepare you for life as a Second Lieutenant.
