A course designed to develop basic interpersonal, interpretive, and presentational communication in American Sign Language. Students will explore Deaf culture and make connections to diverse perspectives.
An appropriate placement score and three years or less of formal experience. Followed by ASL 210. This is a course conducted primarily in ASL.

ASL 210Beginning Integrated Language and Culture3
A course designed to continue developing basic interpersonal, interpretative, and presentational communication in American Sign Language. Students will integrate various disciplines in their exploration of Deaf cultures throughout the world. The vast majority of classroom activities are conducted in ASL.
This course offers third level instruction for advanced ASL students with a focus on common English Idioms and their proper interpretation and translation into ASL. The course will also cover the history of ASL and compare its evolution with sign languages in other cultures.
