5 courses with the subject DATA, each shown exactly as we captured it from the college's catalog, with every element we hold. Where the wording looks broken, that is our reading of the catalog, not the college's text.
DATA 102Introduction to Data Science: The Data Life-Cycle3
This course introduces the data life-cycle used by data scientists from modeling and collection of empirical evidence to decision-making and answering authentic questions in a variety of domains. Topics will include the elaboration of client problems and queries, assessment of available data sources, analysis protocols for large-scale data sets, and the presentation of findings for non-technical audiences. Basic machine learning approaches will be introduced, along with tools for data mining, visualization, and model evaluation.
MATH 171 and CMSC 140 , both with a grade of C- or higher
Corequisite
None
DATA 282Experiential Learning Seminar in Data Science1
This course introduces the steps involved in managing data science projects, client interactions, and effective communication strategies. This course also focuses on analyzing the implementation of the data life-cycle from client-centered consulting projects.
This course considers the social impact of ethical considerations in data science, examined through the lens of multiple ethical theories. Topics include the ethical examination of the storage and dissemination of data, and the necessary data security issues that may arise; the introduction of biases-intentional or not-related to automated protocols; and the need for transparency.
This is the first course in a two-course sequence in which students will plan and implement an authentic data science project. Students will develop skills critical to successful consultation in relation to the initial stages of project management and planning. The focus is on managing data science projects, optimizing client interactions, and refining the ability to deliver quantitative insights with data-driven decision-making. The course emphasizes working with clients to elaborate their research questions and the availability of data to provide insights into the questions the clients desire to have answered.
DATA 282 with grade of C- or higher and Senior status Restricted to Data Science Majors
Corequisite

DATA 482Practice of Data Science Consulting II2
This is the second course in a two-course sequence that focuses on managing data science projects, optimizing client interaction, and refining the ability to deliver insights that drive decision making. The course emphasizes collaboration with clients and is designed to allow students to develop skills in leadership, project management, and strategic thinking.
