9 courses with the subject GGIS, each shown exactly as we captured it from the college's catalog, with every element we hold. Where the wording looks broken, that is our reading of the catalog, not the college's text.
GGIS 1178Discovering Physical Sciences3
The course will explore the basic principles of physical science which describe the world we live in and the universe that surrounds us. Topics will vary related to the physical science discipline prefix including concepts in chemistry, physics, geology, meteorology and climate science, geography, and mathematics.
This course presents the basic knowledge required to work with digital maps. It is an introduction to the geo-technologies Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Global Positioning Systems (GPS), and Remote Sensing. The potential uses of those technologies in the areas such as environmental studies, marketing, and demographics are also presented
This course provides an analysis of different methods and techniques of representing geographic data through the use of various manual and computer-based technologies. The focus is upon the processes involved in the collection, compilation and display of geographic data within the database.
Explores aerial photographs and satellite images for geographic investigation of physical and cultural features of the landscape; as well as the application of remote sensing to topographic and planimetric map construction, agricultural and land use identification, landform study, and forestry.
GGIS 3110Geospatial Data Handling and Integration3
This course concentrates on how geographic data can be compiled from different sources into a GIS project. Tasks include planning and designing a geographic database, data entry (digitization and attribute editing), working with and integrating GIS data from a variety of online sources, and manipulating metadata.
This course introduces the art and science of mapmaking. It is designed to effectively communicate quantitative and qualitative geographic data. Map design, including composition, type and color use, scale, coordinate systems, and layout balance and visual hierarchy are taken into consideration depending on the purpose and the audience of the map.
This advanced course builds on the skills acquired in Computer Cartography ( GGIS 3120 ). Students will learn how to manipulate printshop-ready documents as well as advanced web map handling. Customization techniques are introduced to support students’ creativity to professionally and effectively communicate with maps.
This course introduces the use of basic quantitative methods in geography. Concepts and applications of spatial statistics, testing statistical significance, identifying patterns and analyzing relationships applied to geographic distributions.
GGIS 4900Capstone in Geographic Information Technologies3
This is a project-based course where students develop a research project with the emphasis of Geospatial Technologies. The hands-on nature of this course will enable the student to actively work on real-life problems and therefore promote work and time management skills, project development, report writing, and making professional presentations.
