This course will introduce students to the global tourism industry. It discusses the industry’s scale, scope, and organization from a supply and demand perspective. Fundamental business concepts are applied to the major tourism industry sectors.
This course covers the geography of tourism in selected worldwide destinations with an emphasis on form and function is covered. Topics include an analysis of resources for tourism, related land-use patterns, and developmental processes. Students focus on tourism as the consumption of places through the lens of geography as the science of places.
This course explores tourist consumption of death, tragedy, and suffering through dark tourism attractions and destinations. Students study the motivations, ethical challenges, and impacts of dark and extreme tourism on culture, society, and economies.
Sustainable tourism is tourism in a form that minimizes the negative consequences of tourism from an ethical framework of humans as the stewards of economic, environmental, and cultural resources This course teaches students to avoid, identify, assess, and manage the negative consequences of tourism for tourism destinations.
