ach The goal of interprofessional education is to prepare future healthcare providers and professionals to work together as a team to improve patient and population health care. This includes engaging in foundational research on interprofessional education/collaborative practice; the use of interprofessional collaborative practice models to provide better care for clients. Service learning provides an opportunity for health care providers to learn more about health vulnerabilities that communities face and gain firsthand experience of working with underserved populations. Service learning uses experiential learning, reflection and reciprocal learning to increase student awareness of community health needs. Health care providers will be more likely to utilize these skills of collaborative practice, experiential learning, reflection and reciprocal learning in their own clinical practice. UNV-002 is designed to help students explore majors in a holistic, interactive, and intentional manner. Students will discover, examine, and refine academic and career interests as well as learn about the major/career decision making process through self-assessments, evaluation activities of majors and careers, faculty guest speakers, and implementing an action plan. All first-year University Studies and Health Studies students are required to take UNV-002 during their first semester; however, it is open to all students if space is available. Please note this course will not count towards a student’s total credits for graduation. 1.00 This is the first course in the core curriculum and will transition students into the Gwynedd Mercy University community. It has three main goals: fostering the development of academic skills, educating students in the Mercy tradition and the mission of the University, and supporting the positive growth of interpersonal and social skills, all of which are necessary for success in the collegiate environment. In addition, this course introduces students to the concept of service to society reflective of the Mercy charism. Finally, UNV-100 seeks to develop student engagement with academic and co-curricular programming throughout the University; therefore, students will be required to attend approved events on campus. 2.00 As part of the UNV program, this course nurtures student development for service to society within the Mercy tradition through participation in a service activity and a guided written reflection.
