LANG 101Transition to College
Writing meets 4 class hours per week. The class gives students an opportunity to improve their English writing skills necessary for success in university class- es. These skills include (1) writing para- graphs and essays, (2) writing research papers, (3) paraphrasing, (4) avoiding plagiarism, summarizing and analyzing, (5) editing their own writing for gram- mar mistakes. This integrated pastoral ministry pro- gram combines formation, practice, the- ory and reflection. The purpose of the program is stated as follows: Pastors who participate in STEP will grow in spiritu- al maturity, Biblical and historical knowledge and ministering skills as well as visionary and missionary leadership, becoming effective ministers in revital- ized and multiplying congregations extending God’s kingdom in the world. The curriculum focuses on four areas: being (spiritual, relational and voca- tional formation); knowing (intellectual formation); doing (ministry skills); lead- ing (leadership skills). for College I and II. . . . . . . . . . . 3+3 This is a two-semester sequence designed for first-year students with an SAT Verbal/Critical Reading score below 460 or an ACT English score below 19 and high school English grades below B in junior and senior courses. These two courses do not sat- isfy the writing course requirement. Upon completion of the course(s), instructor evaluation will indicate one of the following: 1) the student is ready to enroll in LANG 131/2 to satisfy the writing requirement; 2) the student must complete further developmental work before enrolling in LANG 131/2.
