Seminar courses help students to combine the various threads of the foundation and inquiry courses. Students will learn to appreciate the value of multiple perspectives and disciplines in gaining a nuanced and in-depth understanding of complex issues. First offered in 2027-2028.
Meets requirements for Senior Seminar or Senior Portfolio in prior catalogs Total: minimum of 39 semester hours/credits, plus 6 EMU Engage credits, plus a writing-intensive course, typically within the major *Pending placement. Students may self-place in College Writing I for additional writing support; Students bringing transferable dual enrollment credit may be placed in University Research (1), to complete their preparation for writing at EMU. Leadership as Social Innovation explores leadership in complex, dynamic environments where uncertainty and change are the norm. Moving beyond traditional individualistic models, the course frames leadership as social innovation grounded in shared responsibility, ethical influence, and collective impact for the common good. Through leadership theory, faith-informed reflection, and applied practice, students develop the capacity to mobilize people and resources across systems toward sustainable, just, and equitable outcomes. PATH 412Capstone, Digital Creativity in the Age of Artificial Intelligence2
This interdisciplinary course explores how artificial intelligence is transforming creative fields, such as writing, music, audio, photography, and video. Students examine the ethical, economic, and philosophical dimensions of generative AI while developing informed perspectives through direct engagement with these tools. The course culminates in a multimedia presentation in which students create original work across multiple media forms, alongside critical reflection on their creative process and AI integration choices. This is a capstone to the Technology, Ethics and Society pathway.
PATH 413Capstone, The Art and Psychology of Horror Movies2
This capstone to the Communication, Culture, and Creative Expression Pathway dives deep into the artistic elements and psychological properties that make horror movies scary and effective storytelling mediums for engaging with intercultural understanding and power and equity. Students will analyze how horror films engage with themes such as mental illness, religion, gender, race, sexuality, and social class. This course offers genre-specific content on how to engage with and critique horror media and, as such, no previous knowledge on psychology or film theory is required. The course culminates in a reflection on how concepts explored through a specific lens can be applied outward as students take their learning in this course and other Communication, Culture, and Creative Expression courses and utilize liberal arts understanding in their future careers.
