Effective Date 08/01/2026 This course explores the critical importance of nature connectedness as a social determinant of health, the root of pro-environmental behaviors, and a foundation for community building. We ground our study in experiential activities, scientific readings, the wisdom of local activists, and Indigenous ways of knowing. Together, we will explore mindsets, practices, and perspectives needed for human and planetary health. Effective Date 01/01/2023 This capstone seminar for the Environmental Thought and Practice major supports students in integrating the broad range of ideas and perspectives they encountered during their course of studies. In addition, students will learn skills and practices for cultivating a strong purpose and for building the resilience and self-knowledge needed to be effective environmental stewards in their chosen future careers.
Effective Date 10/30/2023 Original research usually involving a field or laboratory problem in Environmental Thought and Practice under the direction of one or more faculty members. The results may form the basis of an undergraduate thesis which is required to partially fulfill the Distinguished Majors Program in environmental sciences.
