Effective Date 01/01/2026 This course provides an introduction to French political and social thought beginning in the sixteenth century with study of the Essays of Montaigne, and culminating in the era of revolution in France. The French Revolution is taught in conversation with revolutions in the U.S. and Haiti, as each revolution influenced the other. This J-Term course satisfies one of the Foundations courses for the Political and Social Thought major.
