Effective Date 05/01/2026 This course explores the intersection of poetry and contemplation across different cultures in aesthetic experiences. The heart is Rilke’s The Duino Elegies with the films Wenders’s Wings of Desire and Faraway, So Close!, and Tarkovsky’s Solaris. We dialog these with contemplative poetry from Tibetan Buddhist sources and scientific work on aesthetics, such as Dacher Keltner’s Awe. We conjoin these with experimentation with basic contemplative practices.
