Effective Date 12/09/2016 In ancient Greece, women risked death if they even attended the Olympic Games. As Pierre de Coubertin looked to revive the games in 1896, he thought women better suited to cheering on the male victors, than to competing themselves. Effective Date 03/03/2022 This course will interrogate Black geographies in the Americas and the ways in which traditional geographies adhere to a racial-sexual logic. Through an interdisciplinary approach, we will examine Black thinkers’ and scholars’ concepts of geography and how their interventions allow us to think differently about place, space, and Blackness.
