ECON 101Introduction to Personal Finance3

This course provides the fundamental knowledge needed for personal finance and retirement planning. Many important topics will be introduced to help students be more financially educated and responsible with money, so they can spend wisely, establish financial goals, and save and invest for their future. This information is presented within the context of being socially and morally responsible, and how this impacts one’s purchasing, charitable giving, and investing decisions. Students will learn basic math skills to help them evaluate choices and make wise decisions that are quantifiable based on personal objectives. Concepts and techniques include budgeting, balancing a checkbook, protecting assets, establishing good credit, and learning about investments to achieve short and long-term financial goals, including retirement. Essentials of Economics (ECON 200) combines the basic concepts of macro and microeconomics into one course. Credit Varies Qualified students who seek individualized advanced study in some area of economics that is not covered in scheduled courses may apply for an Independent Study Project (ISP). Students assume responsibility for special readings and research under the supervision of a designated faculty member. Regular meetings with faculty and completion of all assignments are required.
