INT 101Introduction to Computing Fundamentals3
This course will give students a broad overview of information technology and other computing disciplines. This will include basics of hardware and software, information representation, storage, and transmission as well as human-computer interfaces. Students will practice commonly used applications. The history of computing and the role of information technology in modern society will be presented. Students will be introduced to different technology career paths and basic engineering skills such as technical writing, teamwork and keeping an engineering notebook. Credit(s): 3
This course will introduce ethical theories and practices as they relate to technology and engineering in a globalized world. Students will explore ethical issues and relevant laws as they pertain to privacy, security, intellectual property, health and safety. Ethical theories, codes of ethics and case studies will be presented and examined. Students will practice the application of ethical decision making models to real world scenarios. Credit(s): 3
This course covers operating system principles and functionality. Operating system (OS) memory, processes, networking and file management are explored. Students learn to install, configure, administer, monitor and harden systems in a networked environment. Virtualization, operating system utilities and secure remote access tools are used to apply operating system (OS) concepts and best practices. Credit(s): 3
This course will provide students with a foundation in telecommunications. This will include both terrestrial and space-based systems and will cover cellular, wired, and wireless transmission methods and protocols. Students will learn how frequencies are allocated and governed internationally. The course will spotlight the global positioning system (GPS) and analogous international systems.
