ACCT 1010Principles of Accounting I4
A study of the basic principles of accounting as they apply to a sole proprietor business and a partnership. Prerequisite: Completion of MATH 0920, or test in MATH 0930 or higher. (4 lect.)
A study of the basic principles of accounting as they apply to corporation accounting, financial statements, managerial accounting, and planning and controlling business operations. Prerequisite: Completion of ACCT 1010. (3 lect.)
This course will provide an introduction to accounting software and its application to the accounting cycle. Training will be provided in setting up the original accounting records for a business with the software and then in recording various accounting transactions. (1 lect., 2 lab) IT
This course is designed to have both personal and vocational value. Students will learn the latest tax information that is generally applicable to many taxpayers. This information will allow students to prepare their own tax returns intelligently and provides the necessary foundation for those who enter the vocation of preparing individual and business tax returns. This course offers an introduction to accounting software and its practical application within the accounting cycle. The student will receive hands-on training in setting up initial accounting records for a business using the software, recording a variety of accounting transactions, producing reports, reconciling accounts, and closing the books for end of the fiscal year. The primary purpose of financial accounting is to deliver relevant financial information to external users, such as investors and creditors. This course examines the fundamental principles and procedures of accounting with a strong emphasis on the analysis, interpretation, and controls necessary for providing accurate financial data to external entities. Key financial statements covered include the balance sheet, income statement, and statement of cash flows. Additionally, the student will explore topics such as income measurement, profitability analysis, time value of money concepts, and inventory accounting. Prerequisite: Completion of ACCT 2020. An introductory investigation of fundamental principles of managerial cost accounting, such as accumulation and reporting of accounting information for product costing and standard costing, as well as information and processes useful in planning, decision-making and control activities. Generally offered in Fall only. Prerequisite: Completion of ACCT 1010. (3 lect)
The student will gain up-to-date tax knowledge relevant to a wide range of taxpayers. By the end of the course, the student will be equipped to prepare their own tax return as well as have a solid foundation for a career in preparing individual and business taxes. (3 lect.)
