MASS 1500Massage Therapy Techniques I5

This course is the first of a two-semester hands-on technique series that provides the foundation skills for Massage Therapy (MT). Students will learn a brief history of MT across multiple cultures. The course covers the foundations of Swedish massage with an emphasis on technique and development of palpation skills. Anatomy for bodyworkers, time management, routine sequencing, and chair massage techniques are also taught.

MASS 1510Massage Therapy Techniques II5

This course, the second of a two-semester hands-on technique series, offers comprehensive coverage of Neuromuscular Massage Therapy (NMT). In addition to systematic client assessments, NMT technique, protocols, and sequencing for all parts of the body, the course will cover breathing dynamics, postural assessment, sports massage techniques, and integration of supplemental modalities in a client-centered Massage Therapy setting.

MASS 1520Communication, Ethics and Business Application3

This course focuses on theory and standards important to the practice of massage therapy. Students will understand the impact of ethical decision-making on the profession and legal issues that can arise from unprofessional behavior, including written and verbal communication, social media behavior, and client-relationships. In addition, the course will introduce students to the important aspects of marketing to increase client acquisition and retention. The course will provide students with knowledge of business concepts and applications, including types of business entities, tax responsibilities, and financial decision-making.

This course is designed to introduce students to adaptive massage considerations in various client settings. MASS 1700Kinesiology for Massage Therapists3

This course will introduce the student to the anatomy of the musculoskeletal system. Students will begin the course with a detailed experience navigating the body identifying bones, bony landmarks, and “trails” as described by the textbook materials. The course will then focus on muscle origin, insertion, and action of the entire body. Focus is given to learning and palpating muscles while identifying muscle attachments, action as prime, synergist, and antagonist movers.

This course is a study of pathological changes occurring in the human body’s cells, tissues, and organs that cause or are caused by disease mechanisms. Massage Therapy (MT) students receive a foundation in the disease processes, identification of signs and symptoms of diseases, as well as medical terminology commonly seen in the field. The course also covers massage therapy considerations; indications and contraindications for treatment and proper protocol for client education and diagnosis referrals.
