This course is designed for non-art majors and is intended to equip students with the basic knowledge needed to intelligently discuss a work of art. Students will learn about the formal aspects of art, various theory-based criticisms of art, diverse media, and many historical and cultural aspects of art. This course introduces the human phenomenon of art making through reading, writing, discussion, lecture, and studio projects.
Students investigate the visual vocabulary required in drawing and gain an understanding of the basic form and techniques used to render realistic as well as expressive drawings. Students use a variety of media such as pencil, conte, charcoal, ink and pastels.Course Fees: $45.00

Digital Thinking explores techniques of graphic design preparation from concept through paste-up to the printed page, engaging both verbal and visual communication. Students will learn how to use digital cameras, compose and edit photographs, and use photo editing software. The class will begin with an investigation of photography techniques before moving through a series of assignments designed to create an understanding of how to compose a body of photographic work around a specific theme or concept.
