A study of the litigation process, including the Federal and Wyoming Rules of Civil Procedure. Students acquire skills in performing the functions and duties of a legal assistant in the litigation process, including the drafting of documents, such as pleadings, motions, discovery documents, and trial notebooks. Because both LEGL 2550 and LEGL 2500 cover various aspects of the civil litigation process, students are strongly encouraged to take these courses in consecutive semesters.

Students demonstrate skills in interviewing clients and witnesses and locating information necessary when preparing a case for trial. Students apply the basic state and federal rules governing the admissibility of evidence and acquire skills in preparing and handling evidence for courtroom use. Students prepare a variety of pre-trial documents. Because both LEGL 2500 and LEGL 2550 cover various aspects of the civil litigation process, students are strongly encouraged to take these courses in consecutive semesters.

Students study the basic principles and applications of constitutional law in an historical context. Each section of the course material will focus on four key concepts: Limited government, the protection of private property, the promotion of commerce, and individual rights, with an emphasis on individual rights and due process.
