MGT 1000Intro to Supervision3
Students acquire an understanding of overseeing employees to guide the daily operations in a business. Students will learn skills to be the company’s connection between the employees and the executive team of the business. They will also learn techniques to help employees feel more confident in their work and improve communication between employees and upper management.
Students learn of the human resource components of supervision. Students also learn about creating a safe and compliant workplace for their supervisees. Students learn about tools to help with the hiring and offboarding of employees. Finally, students learn about tools to help their supervisees perform at a high level, while still maintaining employee satisfaction.
Students focus on the leadership skills of a supervisor. Students learn to develop and communicate a shared vision, to empower employees, to manage conflict, to negotiate, and to develop organizations so that all are working toward common goals. Students recognize that different situations require different approaches to leadership.
Students learn the theory and practice of management, as they examine the roles and responsibilities of modern managers. Students work collaboratively to create a service project for a non-profit agency integrating the four functions of management.
Students will engage in supervised daily operations of an organization, as a professional intern with a cooperating organization. Students integrate academic preparation with professional experience in Accounting, Management, or Marketing.

MGT 3210Management and Organization3
This class is specifically designed for students, with a technical background, to examine the practice of management within that industry. Students explore concepts related to building and maintaining a sustainable organization. Emphasis of this class will be on the planning function, as students prepare the foundation of their capstone project; which will be developed, refined, and completed throughout the BAS program. Students will discuss the organizing, leading, and controlling functions of management within their industry.
Completion of or concurrent enrollment in BADM 3010 .
MGT 3415Applied Human Resources Management3
Students analyze the strategic role of the human resource manager in performing functions of recruitment, hiring, training, and career development within a business. Students study the formal systems used to manage people at work, such as job analysis and evaluation, wage and salary administration, performance evaluation, safety, employee services and fringe benefits. Students evaluate procedural compliance of EEO, diversity, and other legal aspects of managing people. Students develop comprehensive management plans to recruit, evaluate, and promote employees within a successful organization. This course highlights important challenges facing managers and employees in today’s business climate.
MGT 3425Applied Organizational Behavior and Leadership3
Students study individual, group, and organizational processes that affect employee behavior at work. Students analyze successful leadership practices. Students examine the impact of individual differences, organizational politics, and culture on organizational behavior.
Students develop techniques to improve or establish themselves as first-line managers using direct and influential communications with their first reports. Students apply management principles in solving problems encountered by first-line managers. Students evaluate the influential roles that leaders play in addressing issues, challenges, and opportunities facing employees. As future organizational leaders, students develop skills to use for future internal communications to build beneficial relationships and engage their team in the fast-changing business and media environment.
MGT 4805Applied Business Strategy and Policy (Capstone)3
This course is intended to be the culmination of the applied management curriculum. As a capstone course, it provides a framework for integrating knowledge from foundational courses taken throughout the applied management curriculum. Students analyze and assess internal operations of a firm and the external, competitive environment of an industry to develop the components of a strategic plan. Students will also learn how to read, understand, and develop policy as a means of advancing their plan.
