Students develop an understanding of business, opportunities in business, and how business can be utilized in their career goals.
Students study the principles, strategies, and techniques of effective written, oral, and digital business communication. Emphasis is placed on reviewing grammar and mechanics as students create successful written messages including e-mails, memos, letters, reports, and resumes. Students learn productive techniques to communicate professionally in an increasingly global, digital workplace.
Students explore a broad overview of business-related legal topics including the sources of law, disputes and settlement, criminal and civil law, contract law, and the legal role of government within business.
Students will examine ethical principles to include: integrity, trust, accountability, transparency, fairness, respect, rule of law, and viability. Through exploration and analysis of real-world cases, students will apply the ethical principles to develop skills in recognizing, assessing, and responding to ethical dilemmas. This allows for continued growth of ethical decision-making and leadership skills in social, educational, and professional work environments.
Students enhance writing skills appropriate for professional managers. These may include audience analysis, information design, and the use of visuals. Students study the principles, strategies, and techniques of effective written, oral, and digital communication. Emphasis on successful communication, including written messages including e-mails, memos, letters, reports, and proposals.
Students examine the process of data analysis and evaluate how it is utilized within a business or organization. Students will also gain practical knowledge and skills to understand, interpret and communicate data relevant to the managerial role within an organization.
Students explore the nature of ethical behavior in business and its broader implications for society. Students examine ethics in business and the factors that impact the ethical decision-making process. Students practice skills and strategies to develop and evaluate a business code of ethics as well as employee training programs on ethical business behavior.
The internship places students in organizations, as management trainees, with the intent of providing the student with an advanced understanding of management within their professional industry.
