Students recognize a variety of personal health issues including the impact of family history on health. Students identify health risks and describe behaviors that improve overall health and well-being. Students analyze how physical activity and exercise minimize the effects of stress on one’s health and apply this to their personal lives. Students investigate how their health is multidimensional and health impacts may occur within any of those dimensions.

HLED 1221Standard First Aid and CPR2

In this comprehensive course, students are trained to act in emergency situations and recognize and care for life-threatening respiratory or cardiac emergencies. Students learn skills necessary in an emergency to help sustain life and to minimize pain and the consequences of injury or sudden illness until professional medical help arrives. Students are trained in adult and pediatric cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) as well as in the use of an automated electronic defibrillation device.
