This course explores healthcare and social policies in contemporary society. Students examine policy principles through the lens of competing values such as access, equity, and efficiency. You'll analyze how government and groups shape healthcare policies through public health, cost management, and social factors. Social policies addressing poverty, unemployment, education, and housing are also scrutinized as well as their impact on health results. Ethical, legal, and moral issues in policy making are highlighted with a particular focus on the material consequences for individuals and various demographic groups. Case studies and current examples equip the student with an understanding of multifaceted nature of these issues, preparing thoughtful engagement with today and tomorrow's challenges.
