transfer_credit18| Central Wyoming College 2025-2026 Catalog CREDIT FOR PRIOR LEARNING Central Wyoming College recognizes that students acquire knowledge in many settings. Credit for Prior Learning (CPL) is the process CWC uses to validate college-level knowledge and competencies gained through industry, military, or other educational experiences outside the traditional classroom. The following criteria are applicable to CPL: 1. Students are limited to earning a maximum of 75% of the credits in their declared program through CPL and Transfer Credits. 3. Credits earned through Credit by Exam might not be accepted for transfer at another institution. 4. With the exception of Credit by Exam and Portfolio Assessment all CPL will be shown as Transfer Credit on the student’s Program of Study, but will not be reflected on the student’s official CWC transcript and will not transfer into the CWC GPA. 8. The Registrar will evaluate Credit by Exam credits from other institutions for transfer credit on a case by case basis. The Registrar will coordinate with the appropriate faculty or dean for review of the certification/licensure for course transfer credit equivalency, if deemed acceptable. CWC Professional Affiliations Students may be able to obtain transfer credit for prior learning obtained while under the direction of organizations or institutions that have a professional relationship with Central Wyoming College. An example of this is an agreement that is in place for students to obtain credit for prior learning for certain courses taken at the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS).2025-2026www.cwc.edu
transfer_creditStudents receiving passing scores on the APE exams will receive transfer credit and a grade of “S.” Students who are unable to make arrangements through their high school to take the examinations should write to the College Board Advanced Placement Examinations, P.O. If CLEP is not available for a particular course, students may consider Credit by Examination (see Credit by Examination policy). 2. Freshman and Sophomore level (Lower Level) courses are accepted for transfer. If a course equivalency is not made, the course will be transferred as an elective.2025-2026www.cwc.edu
transfer_creditGetting Started| 21 CWC Credit by Examination Students may take Challenge Exams (skills assessment) developed by CWC faculty for courses in which he/she is seeking credit. Enrolled CWC degree-seeking students in good academic and financial standing may petition to receive credit by examination for courses numbered 1000-2999. Credit by examination includes Challenge Exams (skills assessment) and other methods of student competence. 2. Students may seek credit by examination for any given course only once in a twelve-month period. 3. The fee for credit by examination is $50 paid before the examination is given. The fee is not considered tuition for the course, therefore is in addition to tuition paid for all other registered courses for the semester in which the credit by examination is earned. 4. A copy of the Credit by Examination Policy and Request Form is available upon request from the Testing Center or the Student Records Office. 5. Please note, credits earned through Credit by Examination might not be accepted for transfer at another institution. 8. Credit by Examination is not available for courses for which CLEP is available. Upon successful completion of the test, the students will receive 1 credit of “Credit by Examination” posted on their transcript. GUARANTEE OF TRANSFER CREDIT TO OTHER INSTITUTIONS The Central Wyoming College Board of Trustees, in conjunction with the Central Wyoming College Administration, officially recognizes the high quality of education offered through transfer programs by issuing the following guarantee: Each student is hereby guaranteed that a maximum of 60 credits of CWC credit courses listed in the Wyoming Catalog of Higher Education Courses, numbered 1000-1499 and 2000-2499 and which are completed with a grade of “C” or better will transfer to regionally accredited state-supported four-year colleges and universities anywhere in the United States. transfer_creditGetting Started| 25 TRANSFER OF CREDIT FROM OTHER INSTITUTIONS Students may use transfer coursework accepted by CWC to satisfy graduation requirements; however, CWC does not use transferred coursework to calculate cumulative grade point averages, nor to determine academic standing. The granting of transfer credit does not automatically imply acceptance of those credits to specific degrees since requirements vary from program to program. Transfer credit granted by Central Wyoming College does not imply those credits will be accepted and transfer to other institutions. The following conditions apply regarding transfer credit from another college: 1. For all students pursuing an Associate degree or Certificate, Central Wyoming College will evaluate for transfer credit freshman and sophomore college-level courses completed with a “C” or better at accredited institutions of higher education and may consider, on an individual basis, college-level studies from institutions that are not accredited. Credit by Exam courses will be considered on a case by case basis, and will be evaluated in the same manner as other coursework. 2. For all students pursuing a Bachelor of Applied Science degree, Central Wyoming College will evaluate for transfer credit freshman, sophomore, junior and senior college-level courses completed with a “C” or better at accredited institutions of higher education and may consider, on an individual basis, college-level studies from institutions that are not accredited. Please refer to ‘Procedures for Students Transferring to CWC Confirmed AA, AS, Bachelors, and AAS Degree’ regarding credit of General Education course requirements; For students pursuing the Early Childhood Education, BAS, the lower division courses must be completed before a student can enroll in more than 15 upper-division credits at CWC; 3) Course prerequisites must be completed before a student can enroll in upper-division courses; 4) For transfer credit, upper division course requirements must be earned through an accredited institution of higher education and may be considered, on an individual basis, from institutions that are not accredited. The student may still transfer credits from other institutions to meet a portion of the degree, but does not declare an associate degree as a part of the BAS plan and to graduate, a student must have a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 (“C” average) or better on all courses taken at Central Wyoming College.2026-2027cwc.smartcatalogiq.com

Credit for Prior Learningprior_learningCredit for Prior Learning (CPL) is the process CWC uses to validate college-level knowledge and competencies gained through industry, military, or other educational experiences outside the traditional classroom. CWC offers students several ways to earn CPL: by professional certification, professional associations, portfolio assessment, and many forms of direct examination. The following criteria are applicable to CPL: 1. Students are limited to earning a maximum of 75% of the credits in their declared program through CPL and Transfer Credits, excluding Credit by Exam and Portfolio Assessment. 2. None of these methods for alternative credit can be used for financial aid, scholarships, and athletic/activity eligibility. 5. Students must be admitted to CWC and declare a degree-seeking program or certificate to be eligible for CPL. 6. CPL cannot duplicate other credit awarded. 7. Credit may be granted only for documented learning which falls within the normal curriculum of the college or ties the prior experience to theories and content of the relevant academic field(s), and are part of the student’s designated program of study at CWC. 8. The Registrar will evaluate Credit by Exam credits from other institutions for transfer credit on a case by case basis.2026-2027cwc.smartcatalogiq.com
Direct Examprior_learningStudents receiving passing scores on the APE exams will receive transfer credit and a grade of “S.” Students who are unable to make arrangements through their high school to take the examinations should write to the College Board Advanced Placement Examinations, P.O. If CLEP is not available for a particular course, students may consider Credit by Examination (see Credit by Examination policy). Freshman and Sophomore level (Lower Level) courses are accepted for transfer. If a course equivalency is not made, the course will be transferred as an elective. CWC Credit by Examination Students may take Challenge Exams (skills assessment) developed by CWC faculty for courses in which he/she is seeking credit. Enrolled CWC degree-seeking students in good academic and financial standing may petition to receive credit by examination for courses numbered 1000-2999. Credit by examination includes Challenge Exams (skills assessment) and other methods of student competence. Students may seek credit by examination for any given course only once in a twelve-month period. The fee for credit by examination is $50 paid before the examination is given. The fee is not considered tuition for the course, therefore is in addition to tuition paid for all other registered courses for the semester in which the credit by examination is earned. A copy of the Credit by Examination Policy and Request Form is available upon request from the Testing Center or the Student Records Office. Please note, credits earned through Credit by Examination might not be accepted for transfer at another institution. Credit by Examination is not available for courses for which CLEP is available. Upon successful completion of the test, the students will receive 1 credit of “Credit by Examination” posted on their transcript.2026-2027cwc.smartcatalogiq.com
Guarantee of Transfer Credit to Other Institutionstransfer_creditGuarantee of Transfer Credit to Other Institutions The Central Wyoming College Board of Trustees, in conjunction with the Central Wyoming College Administration, officially recognizes the high quality of education offered through transfer programs by issuing the following guarantee: Each student is hereby guaranteed that a maximum of 60 credits of CWC credit courses listed in the Wyoming Catalog of Higher Education Courses, numbered 1000-1499 and 2000-2499, and which are completed with a grade of “C” or better, will transfer to regionally accredited state-supported four-year colleges and universities anywhere in the United States. Each student is also guaranteed a maximum of 60 credits of CWC credit courses listed in the Wyoming Catalog of Higher Education Courses, numbered 3000-4999, and which are completed with a grade of “C” or better, will transfer to accredited state-supported four-year colleges and universities anywhere in the United States. If transfer problems arise, the student must provide a letter from the receiving institution no later than 30 days after the start of the student’s first term of enrollment at the receiving institution. That letter must be from an appropriate official at the receiving institution explaining what transfer credit has been denied and why. Refunds are normally processed within 30 days of approval. This refund policy refers only to individual CWC course tuition costs at the time the course was taken and does not include institutional fees, course fees, or other expenses. The rights of the student under the Guarantee are personal and may not be assigned or transferred. The Guarantee does not apply to actions or changes on the part of receiving institutions or individual students, over which Central Wyoming College has no control. The policy does not guarantee that all courses will necessarily be equated as equivalent courses or that the courses will count toward specific programs at the receiving institutions.2026-2027cwc.smartcatalogiq.com

Transfer of Credit from Other Institutionstransfer_creditTransfer of Credit from Other Institutions Students may use transfer coursework accepted by CWC to satisfy graduation requirements; however, CWC does not use transferred coursework to calculate cumulative grade point averages, nor to determine academic standing. CWC encourages transfer students to provide course descriptions of completed classes and college catalogs from other institutions. The granting of transfer credit does not automatically imply acceptance of those credits to specific degrees since requirements vary from program to program. Transfer credit granted by Central Wyoming College does not imply those credits will be accepted and transfer to other institutions. The following conditions apply regarding transfer credit from another college: For all students pursuing an Associate degree or Certificate, Central Wyoming College will evaluate for transfer credit freshman and sophomore college-level courses completed with a “C” or better at accredited institutions of higher education and may consider, on an individual basis, college-level studies from institutions that are not accredited. Credit by Exam courses will be considered on a case by case basis, and will be evaluated in the same manner as other coursework. Credit by Exam courses will be considered on a case by case basis, and will be evaluated in the same manner as other coursework. International transcripts must be evaluated with English translation by an approved evaluation service. We recommend you use Spantran for your evaluation. Students are limited to earning a maximum of 75% of the credits in their declared program through Credit for Prior Learning or Transfer Credit. If a student has concerns about a transfer of credit and wishes to appeal a decision, he or she may appeal to the Registrar’s Office. The student will need to submit a copy of a course syllabus, along with a written request for a review to the Registrar indicating why he or she is asking for the appeal. Other course materials that the student believes to be helpful to the appeal may also be submitted. The Registrar will request a review of all submitted information by a faculty member and/or Division Dean in the content area. Students wishing an evaluation of collegiate work for transfer should: Request institutions previously attended send official transcripts directly from the institution to: Student Records Office Central Wyoming College 2660 Peck Avenue Riverton, Wyoming 82501 Have a current CWC admission application on file. A transfer of credit evaluation is required by all CWC transfer students applying for financial aid. Upon receipt, the Registrar will complete the evaluation. This evaluation will become part of the student’s permanent file.2026-2027cwc.smartcatalogiq.com
