ATTR 601Foundational Clinical Skills in Athletic Training3
(3) Didactic and psychomotor skill instruction in various athletic training skills required for initial matriculation into the athletic training program. Topics covered include taking and recording vital signs, taping, wrapping, splinting, and basic modality theory and application.
(3) The course is designed to provide knowledge and experience in emergency care procedures, blood borne pathogens, and first aid. The course will also review the essential elements of emergency action plans required in athletic training settings.
Acceptance into the MSAT program The focus of this course is on human anatomic structure and function, pathophysiology, and pathomechanics of common injuries that Athletic Trainers may encounter in practice. Students will develop appropriate communication methods for various stakeholders, such as professionals, staff, parents, and patients.
ATTR 604Competency-Based Assessment I2
(2) This is an online, self-paced course covering various Athletic Training competencies as identified by the National Athletic Trainers’ Association. Specific topics in this course include basic documentation strategies, the history and scope of the athletic training profession and environmental heat and cold illnesses.
ATTR 601 Students will research various position and consensus statements of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association and evidence-based practices regarding how to provide athletic training services in a manner that informs practices including but not limited to nutritional concepts and general health and wellness for populations in which athletic trainers serve. This course is asynchronous online.
ATTR 614 Students will research clinical outcomes assessment, anatomical and physiologic changes across the lifespan, care of behavioral health conditions, psychosocial issues related to health care, supplemental and performance enhancement drugs, and basic pharmacology as they pertain to athletic training.
ATTR 625Assessment and Therapeutic Interventions III3
(3) This course includes didactic and psychomotor skill instruction various modalities and therapeutic exercise rehabilitation for the spine. Information about the nutritional and psychological components of rehabilitation will also be discussed.
ESHE 650 and ATTR 607 . This course is the third of four clinical experience courses of the MSAT Program’s Clinical Education program. The Coordinator of Clinical Education (CCE) assigns students to the program’s approved Clinical Preceptors in clinical settings where certified athletic trainers and/or medical doctors are employed. Clinical Preceptor(s) will work with students at assigned clinical experience sites(s) to provide students with opportunities to practice and apply athletic training knowledge and skills to various populations.

ATTR 645 and ESHE 698 . This course is the last of the clinical experience courses of the MSAT Program’s Clinical Education program. In this clinical experience, students are immersed in the totality of care provided by an Athletic Trainer where they participate in the day-to-day and week-to-week role of an athletic trainer. Students will work with Clinical Preceptors to achieve competency in the standards of practice and code of professional responsibility as outlined by the Board of Certification.
