Prerequisite
Declared concentration in Music Education. In order to successfully integrate technology into their teaching, music education majors will develop critical and applicable awareness of instructional and music technologies. Prospective music teachers will be introduced to techniques and methods in a wide array of technologies, as well as national music (NCAS) and technology (ISTE) standards via Project-Based Learning (PBL). Along the way, students will develop basic skills for identifying and applying technologies appropriate to PK-12 music classrooms and programs.

MUSE 300 : Field Experiences in Music Education Classroom Instruments involves the study of instruments commonly used in general music classes, including the voice as an instrument. The course includes performance techniques, pedagogy for teaching young students how to use the singing voice and perform classroom instruments effectively, and basic accompaniment and arranging techniques for classroom ensembles. MUSC 354 and one semester each of Woodwind Techniques, Brass Techniques, Percussion Techniques and String Techniques. Continuation of MUSC 354 with emphasis on band and orchestral conducting. Score reading and study, instrumental score interpretation, error detection, instrumental rehearsal techniques, teaching musicianship, literature, instrumentation, transposition, and ensemble management stressed. Each student prepares score for rehearsal by large and mixed instrumental ensembles. Participation in Lab Band as conductor teacher and performer is required.

MUSE 300 or MUSE 400 : Field Experiences in Music Designed for voice majors/minors and vocal/choral Music Education majors. In this course students will learn anatomical and physiological elements of the vocal mechanism related to singing through reading, research, and discussion.
